Been trying to think about how to handle this introduction section.  I think it’s pretty useful to have at least a little background on the community while preserving anonymity for those who need it.

So, I figured I’d do it this way:

First, any biographical background.  Education, etc.

Second, a regional summary of where you live and have lived.  For bonus points:  Who did your state go for in the 2016 presidential election.

Third, a political compass pasting from https://www.politicalcompass.org/.

      So, here’s mine:

Bio:  Businessperson, former corporate executive of a stereotypical “multi-billion dollar global company”, now an entrepreneur with my own small business for the past ~5 years.  Have worked and still do work globally across the U.S., Europe, and East Asia (primarily).  Married, 4 kids.  Donate time and money to community causes and the arts (some would say too much money, not enough time).  2 degrees from Stanford, one from an Ivy league school.  I consider myself pro basic government healthcare, pro social security, pro gay, pro gun, reluctantly pro choice, anti-federal government bureaucracy, anti-police militarization, and generally anti-politician.  Played football at Stanford.

Regions:  Live in the southeast now.  State went for Trump.  Have lived as an adult and taxpayer in New England (2 years), Europe (1 year), the Southwest (>5 years), and California (>9 years total).  Grew up in the Southeast.

Political compass: See attached (I used the windows snipping tool to capture it from the website and save it as a jpg).  This surprised me a little.  I would have guessed center right libertarian, instead the compass says I’m center left libertarian…I’m more skeptical of large companies and globalization these days.  The compass is more euro-centric and avoids a lot of U.S. issues (guns, for instance).

Two thoughtful well written intros.  Thx for sharing.  The details of my life are quite inconsequential.  Summers were spent in Rangoon…

“I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I

City kid, SI grad. Hurt senior year thus losing scholies to a couple of good baseball programs. Giants scout misses my best game and was in attendance when I got hurt. Alas. Maybe had Double A ability. Went to State, had good three years. Later flunked two military physicals and defaulted into family film business which had roots to 1914. 52 years as director and DP, mostly retired now. One son is fourth generation cameraman, the other is high up in Culinary world. Spouse is a writer/director and the heart of the family. Stanford fan since 1953, have attended 65 consecutive Big Games. Evolving politically, slightly conservative and Trump hater. Will vote Libertarian as a protest to the two clowns running. Thanks to PL, GR and others already here from the sunken vessel, Thunderdome.

I did a nice little write-up to identify myself to you all, but stupidly forgot to save it and then lost it during the process of posting it.  Your losses, I guess.  I’m sure as hell not doing it again.

I grew up in Iowa, thus the clever, self-deprecatory screen name.  I figured I may as well lean into the BS.  You know, several times during my undergraduate years I had people tell me that they were familiar with Iowa.  And each time they would identify it as the capital of Minnesota.

I will try again to post this with that graph depicting my “Political Compass”.  The other riveting stories will have to wait to be revealed over the course of future posts, I suppose.  So you have that to look forward to – and that’s nice.

Cornfed – what part of Iowa? I grew up in Marshalltown, moved to Seattle in 84.
