Bernie and Ro Khanna wants $4.4 trillion from those rat bastids, the billionaires. You in?
The skinny:
- There’s 938 billionaires.
- They collectively own $8.2 trillion worth of assets.
- Bernie (I) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) propose an annual 5% tax on wealth exceeding $1 billion
- $3,000 direct payments would be made to every family making less than $150,000 annually (btw, $150k is right around the top 30%)
- Would also reverse Medicaid and ADA cuts.
- Would establish a minimum $60,000 annual salary for teachers.
- No family would pay more than 7% of their income on child care.
- Would expand Medicaid to cover dental, vision and auditory care for senior citizens.
Frankly, if you’re going to tax billionaire wealth, you might as well tax centimillionaire ($100 mms. and up) wealth. There’s about 9,900 centimillionaires (outside of the billionaire group). IRS data says the group’s collective net worth is around $5.1 trillion., and you tax it at 3%, that would generate another $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
