Lowell teacher investigated due to reported inappropriate exam questions
The first time I was ever aware of minority set-asides involved Lowell High School, was half a century ago. My sister (the Stanford PhD) was in 8th grade in 1976 when she was turned down for admission to Lowell, stating (paraphrased) that she did not qualify for the minority entrance program.
They were as underprivileged as they come; e.g., single mother secretary living in a one-bedroom apartment. My brother and I decamped for my father’s house the year before because Mom literally couldn’t afford us. Our food budget for a week in the early 1970s was $10. But you know…white privilege.
