LegendKeymaster
So a general lack of civility, respect, and engaging in bigoted stereotyping must be OK?
Nah, unless you are POTUS.
Wasn’t sure where you were going with the comment, but the aspiration to mutual civility, respect, and individualism is the right one; but just like any aspiration it must be tested in the real world (meaning that others have bias, and to approach the world as if that isn’t true is to be naïve).

LegendKeymaster“Do you think the United States benefits from having a class of rich people, or not?”
What a stupid question. I don’t think rich people are a benefit at all. I think productive people are a benefit, and in our society more often than not they become rich.
The question confuses an outcome with an attribute.
Idle rich people create more problems than they solve, especially today, where being rich makes people infer that smart automatically follows.

LegendKeymasterThe report spends a lot of time on the topic of the Weiner laptop and how long the FBI knew about it (weeks before Comey ultimately informed congress). The report cites Comey as being worried, once he found out about the laptop, that without disclosing the new finding he would be delegitimizing the upcoming Clinton administration. He therefore was insubordinate by notifying congress about the newly reopened investigation.
An alternate theory is that his direct subordinates sat on the laptop for weeks (a fact cited by the IG as “troubling”) in order to ensure no break in momentum for Clinton, and to hem in Comey, who they reasonably could have thought would not announce new information right before the election. Comey, who we now know is a self righteous Boy Scout to his own detriment, decided to go against protocol and to save his own integrity by disclosing to congress. In doing so, he hurt Clinton, but probably no more than he would have hurt her by disclosing the same weeks ahead of the election.
The question all goes back to the July 5 Press conference. If comey keeps his mouth shut then, he never has a need to do subsequent disclosures.
Sad!

LegendKeymasterProbably a good topic for the CEB…so I’ll move it there. In this economy, almost anything that can be done can be done by a motivated individual. That includes everything from “knowledge work” to services to hard core manufactured goods. Almost everything is available in a fractionalized way that doesn’t require a lot of capital or a large organization (which, by the way, would have probably taken 3 months to get the CEB up and running, while all the players left the field). You just have to look.
Now, that said, when it comes to websites, it helps to know someone who can handle the basics (I don’t know how to set up hosting and the like, so had my website guy do this one). Then a little bit of googling gets the tools in place (like that cute little emoji button). In other words, I had to learn a few things over the past couple of days.
The hard part in this economy isn’t the tools. It’s the content. So I made a bet that there were other “booties” who would appreciate the ongoing coffee chat of the CEB without it being in the thunderdome (which, by the way, I don’t see surviving if they killed the friggen CEB).
I don’t know a single person on this board personally, but find that intelligent, thoughtful, and well articulated points of view on current events are hard to come by, and I have enjoyed the CEB enough to try to continue it. It beats the hell out of reading racist and/or politico bot-driven commentary on foxnews.com.

LegendKeymasterSpeaking of the Russians, a (female) Russian politician is warning Russians against sex with foreigners during the World Cup. Especially those who are of a “different race.” The article describes a few concerns on racism in Russia, including an incident of a banana being thrown on the field at a prior match.

LegendKeymasterSpend a little while working almost anywhere other than the U.S., and you will know what racism really is. I’ve worked with Scandinavians (who get a real pass for being very “egalitarian” and accepting refugees at high rates) whose racism would make you cringe. Don’t mention the Russians. Had one Russian employee who constantly wondered what all the fuss was about when it came to race because, well…
We are really sheltered by our own sensitivity and political correctness. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing, but like many things, it ignores the reality of the world.

LegendKeymaster
I think the Model 3 production problems are creating a real cash crunch for the company.
You “think?”
The smart money says they need to raise somewhere from $2 to $10 BILLION dollars to get over the hump. Of course the demented CEO Musk denies it.
That guy has balls the size of grapefruits.

LegendKeymaster
I don’t think anyone in the Trump family or close orbit gives a fig about actual, much less perceived, conflicts of interest.
History will be the judge of it, I suspect (unless the DOJ is at some point), but I do wonder if Trump will make more money after being POTUS than he made before. Certainly “monetizing the presidency” is a criticism one could level at Obama and the Clintons.
Of course, popularity and celebrity are easier when one is a Democrat. Much harder to be a celebrity when you are Dick Cheney.

LegendKeymaster
That memory may be the reason that the new Stanford Stadium is allegedly not FIFA compliant. It is allegedly a few feet short around the edges of the field.
Maybe, but I doubt it. All I know is that removing and replacing the crown on the old stadium field left a late season rectangle of mud for a few years after the World Cup left town. It stank, too.

LegendKeymasterYeah, but you have to admit it’s bush league to talk down a “deal” that really isn’t a “deal” just because POTUS is a marketer of the first degree.
The demented left has proven that it will bet against the home team all the time if it suits them, even when the home team is actually doing the right thing.
I thought that Obama meeting w/ the Castros was the right thing, and I think that Trump meeting w/ Un is the right thing. And, I don’t even mind if Trump plays up his personal relationship.

LegendKeymasterYeah, but Concord was indicted, right? So the government has to produce the evidence, I think. Doesn’t matter if the co-conspirators are holed up somewhere. I could be wrong…waiting for the lawyers to show up on the board. Should happen soon.

LegendKeymasterHere are some insightful takes from the other side of the aisle (way on the other side) about the media myths surrounding the Trump Kim summit.
My favorite: Bloomberg ran a headline that said “Trump Gives Away the Store in Singapore.” SMH.

Said no public company CEO until now. Musk in his internal memo, subsequently posted (by him) to Twitter.
