Mick1ParticipantThat’s the title of the National Review’s Christian Schneider article.
Like most Never Trumpers, Schneider can’t stand Trump and thinks of Harris as a sort of political chemotherapy that will shock the body politic.
A Kamala Harris win could save conservatism
I have news for Schneider…whether or not the Republican party regains its conservative roots of morality, patriotism, decency and faith…it’s irrelevant. Yes, Harris is a typical Democrat in that she’s burdened with a raft of solely bad ideas and yes, her presidency would be painful. But the electorate, once they discover how bereft of — well, any quality that a president should have — KH is, they’ll turn on her. Maybe about 30 seconds into her presidency, I’m guessing.
But they won’t turn to conservatism. The Republican party will not return to its conservative roots. America doesn’t want it, and it may not need it. Republicans will win, here and there, but they will be the long-term losers in the face of a Democratic party funded by Hollywood, Wall Street, Silicon Valley, the media, academia and two generations too undereducated/uneducated to understand why Santa Claus doesn’t make a good president.
And just in case a lefty wanders onto this message, here’s P. J. O’Rourke’s screed on God vs. Santa Claus:
“I have only one firm belief about the American political system, and that is this: God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat. God is an elderly or, at any rate, middle-aged male, a stern fellow, patriarchal rather than paternal and a great believer in rules and regulations. He holds men strictly accountable for their actions. He has little apparent concern for the material well-being of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful and holds the mortgage on virtually everything in the world. God is difficult. God is unsentimental. It is very hard to get into God’s heavenly country club.
Santa Claus is another matter. He’s cute. His nonthreatening. He’s always cheerful. And he loves animals. He may know who’s been naughty and who’s been nice, but he never does anything about it. He gives everyone everything they want without thought of a quid pro quo. He works hard for charities, and he’s famously generous to the poor. Santa Claus is preferable to God in every way but one: There is no such thing as Santa Claus.”
