The death of decorum and civility is a troubling phenomenon. It’s pretty obvious our interactions and discourse have undergone a major shift with a decline in respect, courtesy, and the ability to engage in civil conversations.
In my opinion, technology and social media is responsible for eroding decorum and civility. Anonymity provided by online platforms leads to a lack of accountability, allowing individuals to express themselves in ways they wouldn’t in face-to-face interactions.
Main stream media does little or nothing to help restore what might pass for sane and rational discussion. We’ve been segmented into a society of echo chambers where people are more likely to engage in personal attacks, dismiss opposing viewpoints outright, and engage in hostile debates. The emphasis on winning arguments rather than seeking common ground has eroded the essential elements that are necessary for constructive dialogue.
Screaming and farting at dinner. Sounds more like a sophomoric comedy to me.
