MickParticipantAccording to this article, the top three contenders are Kamala Harris, Susan Rice and Karen Bass. As far as I’m concerned, Susan Rice is the devil incarnate. She’s a horrendous liar. Yes, I know Trump tells BS, salesman-style lies. Susan Rice tells lies that matter, regularly. Or as one of Bill Clinton’s opponents once said, “Bill Clinton is an unusually good liar…unusually good.”
I’d be very surprised if it’s Harris. She has no flair for the national stage, and gets the Dan Quayle deer-in-a-headlight look too often. She’s also, it seems to me, to conservative for progressives, and Biden needs the progressive vote to show up.
Incredibly, however, the article states that Gretchen Whitmer is still — still — in the running. Joe likes her, apparently. As everyone knows, I worked with her, and more importantly, I’ve heard many first hand opinions of her. She was a crappy law firm lawyer, and she is a terrible governor. Case in point: she ran on improving roads and schools, two perennial issues in Michigan. Both are among the nation’s worst. And when push came to shove, she cut budgets for both.
I still think it’s going to be Elizabeth Warren. She’s the only one who can reliably deliver the Progressive vote. Downside: she lies – a lot. She visibly can’t stand Joe B., and tried to make him look bad in the debates. And she has more than a whiff of HRC about her. To me, it boils down to whether Joe thinks he needs her, or perhaps more accurately, whether whoever’s preparing Joe’s morning gruel and wiping his mouth thinks he needs her.
The challenge with Whitmer is that she’s an idiot who would make a bad President. The challenge with the other three may be that they will shrink both the Dem turnout (general disappointment with the choice) or actually lose votes (shadow dislikes of each of the three)
The polls are hugely in Biden’s favor, but they were in Hillary’s favor too. Joe’s handlers have to ask themselves…is Joe far enough ahead to not choose Warren?

LegendKeymasterI think he has no good choice. Of course, that often happens when you artificially narrow the candidate pool by selecting on race and gender.

FratBoySpikeParticipantPosty Mick. I chortled a few times with your word pictures… whoever is preparing Joe’s morning gruel and wiping his chin deserves a medal!

ParticipantHe decreased the pool with idiotic promises as he pandered to the Left. I know he is not that courageous but I would choose a none of the above candidate.

ParticipantBiden owes his nomination to Clyburn. I think it’s Harris. Shes the “safest” choice. Telegenic. Good on the attack. . Which is important for VP candidate. Bass has no name recognition. Rice, Benghazi.
Warren has huge negatives Whitmer brings nothing. I don’t think she’s particularly popular in Michigan Correct me if Im wrong, Mick. (Love your comment on the roads , Mick. Michigans roads make California’s look good.)
Booker would be a better choice than all of them. But Biden stupidly boxed himself in.

Agree. No good choices that can bring some votes or swing a state or two as a dowery.
But Biden is still the best politician in America with nothing to say. And there’s nothing wrong with Biden that a miracle can’t fix. He’s the favorite.

Whitmer’s not particularly popular. Dem’s don’t like what she did with schools, Repubs don’t like her failure to address the roads issue, which are really intractable. They have to be the worst roads in the country.
Her predecessor, Gov. Rick Snyder was also considered as a running mate for Trump at one time. Snyder completely mishandled the Flint water situation, so he was done.
You may be right. Harris seems like the front runner. She’s got lots of negatives, she was Willie Brown’s girlfriend for two years when Willie was 60 or so and she was 29. He gave her two political jobs. She wasn’t what the Dems would consider a good district attorney, she was the opposite. Oh well. We’ll see…

re Biden is the best ….
no shit. The guy is leading by 6 to 9 points in national polls by hiding in his basement.
now I see why the Teachers Associations don’t want to go back to school. As faithful democrats, they believe they can teach from their basements.
