He was a prof at Princeton when my sons were there. He is currently the Green Party candidate and doesn’t have a chance at being elected, but I suspect Democrats are as worried about him siphoning votes as the Republicans were worried about H. Ross Perot in 1992. My mother, a dedicated lefty and supporter of McGovern back in the day, tends to vote Green rather than Democrat these days. She likes the Progressive moves.

At the same time, she’s had experiences that have led her away from liberal causes and towards more traditional conservative causes. My father, once a John Birch conservative, has progressed in the opposite direction and become much more liberal over the years. If the two of them met today, they might be able to have a civil conversation.

I wonder if Mom would vote for Cornel West? I’ll have to check with her. Half of all voters are willing to vote for a third party candidate:

Cornel West says he won’t be running against Biden, he will run “against the Democrats’ B Team” referring to either Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer. If they’re the B team, West is…somewhere in the lower half of the alphabet.

West decisively launched his candidacy with the People’s Party, then decisively switched to the Green Party, then decisively switched to an Independent bid. Model of stability, he.
