Mick1ParticipantHere is the Gallup poll’s annual poll covering faith in sixteen core American institutions covering commerce, politics, the clergy, occupations and everyday life.
What’s interesting is that faith in all sixteen institutions has fallen since 2021. Most faith is in small business, dropping from 70% to 65%. Lowest — and you’ll want to be sitting down for this one — is faith in Congress, dropping from 12% to 8%. How do Congresspeople even look themselves in the mirror?
Single most significant drop was a 12% drop in — again, no surprise — the Presidency, from 38% to 26%. Please note that was all on Joe Biden’s watch. Second most significant drop is the 10% drop in faith in the medical system, from 44% to 34%, followed by a 9% drop in faith in the military from 69% to 60%.

ParticipantI think the poll is measuring liars and their ill will. Respondents sense it. Easy to lie but very hard to undue one. The small business number is interesting but not surprising. Ever hire someone to do a job at your house and they stop showing up? You call them and they tell you a lie about why over and over? Or someone says they will call you back and it never happens?

ParticipantIf I follow your drift, I like it: society should (re-)commit to honesty and trust will rise. I played hoops this morning and lightly deflected a ball just before it went out-of-bounds. no one saw it except me, and I said so. Later in the game 2 of us went for the ball and it went off my opponent. He thought it was off me, but when I said, “no, it was off you last” he accepted it. POliticians, take note!

rjnwmillParticipantReminds me of something my father-in-law shared with me 50 years ago;
“Credibility is like virginity. You can only lose it once.”
There aren’t any virgins in DC…or Sacramento…

ParticipantYea. But you think a liar like Adam Schiff even cares? It’s the malice that amazes me. Everyone knows it but no one cares.
Hurlburt’s ground level approach to fair play is spot on. Ethics is bottom up. Rocky once said here that anyone who cheats at golf will cheat in life. He’s right.

LegendKeymasterAnybody ever hear from Rocky? He got angry about this site’s function thinking it was censoring him and left iirc.
And, yes, it’s ground up.
