      I play mostly public courses and by this time of the season I can pretty much drive to any course and get right on.   They operate at less than 20% in normal years by this time and quickly drop after the first frost.  We’ve had 3 frosts so far.

      But not this year.  I just checked 6 courses for a tee time within 50 miles and no tee times.  Spoke to a course pro yesterday and he said they get slammed every day.   They have never had this kind of season.

      No one is working or they are “working from home” while they golf.   Who wants to work when you get paid not to?   Going to be hard to unwind.

      Interesting vignette.

      Here's a toast with one last pour, may it last forever and a minute more;
      Good fortune seems to you have sung, to live and love way past long

      I don’t golf but do live on a golf course and I am not surprised at  all.

      Despite all the righteous indignation to the contrary, it’s actually a fairly rare person who has the discipline to “bring it” day after day without accountability or supervision.  Suddenly we think everybody can do it and it’s no problem.

      The people who are going to really get hurt in this will be the more junior people who get zero face time and role modeling.

      PL, do we live on the same golf course?  “She who must be obeyed” will not live anywhere but on a golf course.  Such has been my lot in life for 47 years of marriage since we afford the luxury of it.

      Have had this conversation before as well regarding supervision.

      Can engineers who are on a team project work from home effectively.  An engineer friend who retired from Raytheon said no.     Can your Internist really meet with you by Zoom and be effective as if it were in person?  Are teachers working remotely as effective as they are in person?  Or a social worker?

      How far and how long can you take this?

      Answers vary, of course. Before Covid, heard the CEO of a major international engineering firm speak. He had implemented a remote work force for their entire organization a decade ago, and it is wildly successful. He spoke primarily on culture in his organization and how to maintain it. A few weeks into Covid, had him talk to a small group of CEOs about working remotely effectively, and it can be done. Really was fascinating.

      That said, also heard (fourth hand from an well connected source) that Facebook is failing miserably at working from home, and that Zuckerberg is extremely frustrated.

      My hunch is that if the management system is set up to hire and manage remote workers, it works. A huge part of that is hiring the right people.  otherwise you get the “T to T” crowd, which is to say they work Tuesday to Thursday, Ten to Two.

      “T” to “T” crowd.  Now that’s not only funny but true.  But I’m thinking “10 to ’12”.
