The new national security law in Hong Kong has spurred a broad shift in communications, speech, and self-censoring.
China can not be trusted on human rights, but we knew that already.

ParticipantWhen we fight these guys, and sooner or later we will, let’s pick the battlefield for a change.
Remember who was in charge during these wars;
WWI Wilson, Democrat
WWII FDR, Democrat
Korea, Truman, Democrat
Vietnam escalation, LBJ, Democrat
And to increase employment and to sow true democratic (small D) values let’s have mandatory national service. We all could have used it back in the day. After failing an OCS physical and an Army physical I would have been happy to bake donuts in a tent in Danang.

ParticipantWe have had a “strange” relationship with China for decades. We never looked at them as the type of threat that we saw in the USSR or even in Putin’s Russia.
We essentially built their economy. Manufacturing etc. I was stunned when I heard that China manufactured something like 85% of the antibiotics we take. I once heard someone say something along the lines of (Id be more vague on source etc were that possible) that we always believed that spreading capitalist concepts would lead naturally to spread values of freedom and liberty. And that China blew that notion out of the water.
We simply couldn’t resist cheap products and a billion and a half potential consumers.
Its a mess. Agreed. Largely one we helped create.
