Mick1Participant29 people dead. Up to $250 billion in damage. 15,000+ structures destroyed. Political organizations who are motivated and primed to block any new construction as they did in Hawai’i, in which 2,000 homes burned down 18 months ago…and three have been rebuilt.
Rick Caruso, real estate magnate and political opponent of LA Mayor Karen Bass, is on Joe Rogan discussing what could have/should have been done. Here’s the summary:
- Brush should been cleared, it’s been ignored for decades.
- Tree surplus should have been reduced (in an environmentally friendly way). Most workable forests have 40-60 trees per acre, in many parts of Los Angeles, it’s over 200.
- Reservoirs repaired and full – not empty.
- Necessary, planned and demanded repairs should have been made to water lines, hydrants, pumping stations.
- Emergency valves had been designed should have been implemented in order to shift water to needed systems. This was a budgetary request that was made and denied or delayed 10, 8 and 6 years ago.
- Fire trucks operational and on station. 60 trucks were in disrepair.
- Fire department fully funded and staffed. Same number of firefighters as two generations ago.
- Both Caruso and Rogan agree it was incompetence. And it was…at the Governor, Mayor and Fire Department leadership levels.
- W/respect to Competent leadership needed to have been in place instead of DEI hires. Check out Bill Maher on DEI hiring and how it failed LA.

Caruso thinks the fire chief should have resigned, or fired in the absence of a resignation.
