Genuinely don’t understand why this is news.

Reminds me of a father and son at our local swim & racket club.  The father spoke only Mandarin, but he would bark out the same phrase over and over and over again as his son swam up and down the pool.  Sounded to my ears like “boo how”.

My son also speaks Mandarin, and I asked him to translate.  He said “depending on intonation, it means either ‘bad’ or ‘very bad.’  Over and over and over again, for months on end.
