In 1982, John Naisbitt published “Megatrends,” in which he outlined 10 trends that would materially impact America. Most of the trends were foreseeable, and all but one were at least partially accurate.

44 years later, two of the trends he identified are coming home to roost. (1) A move from North to South, but more specifically, he identified California, Florida and Texas as “harbinger” states. Secondly, he identified a trend from representative democracy to participatory democracy.

LA Mayor Karen Bass is facing unique times relevant to both Megatrends. She’s facing a revolt from the Left, insisting on participatory democracy as they see it, specifically Socialist-style forced sharing. As my dad used to say, if you propose to rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have Paul’s vote.

Happily, Bernie Sanders (independent) is here to promote the billionaire tax:

Liberal Sen. Bernie Sanders to kick off California billionaires’ tax campaign

Neither Bass nor Newsom want to tax just the billionaires — Newsom has said that’s more of a national strategy than a local strategy because it is too easy for the billionaires to move — but Bass’s competitors are forcing the issue, as is Mamdani.

The left-wing revolt Karen Bass never saw coming

The question is, will the Far Left be a bellwether for the other states? Mamdani is quite clear on the prospect of Muslim expanionism. He thinks it’s a very good thing and supports it. All of the progress made on behalf of women during the last 150 years…gone, if Muslims take over.

As for participatory democracy, LA doesn’t want the Federales overseeing their plans for the homeless. Local action, local decision, forget about what the Feds want:

Problem with local action is that it’s too easy to BS your way through your own misteaks. Right, Karen? Turns out, Mayor Bass lied. Will she get re-elected?
