One narrative about the Biden appointee. Dr. Levine. The WA Post story focuses almost exclusively on Dr. Levine’s sexual orientation and previous harassment episodes while serving as a PA health officer and her academic credentials.
The WA Post article does not mention one element of Dr. Levine’s record during her public service in PA. It is the principle focus of the Fox News coverage of the appointment.
For me, sexual orientation is not in any way a qualification for, nor does it disqualify an employment candidate in the hiring process.
Fox News coverage of the appointment focuses on Dr. Levine’s personal decision to relocate her mother as she ordered Covid patients to be transferred into residential care facilities.
Personally, the Biden effort to introduce this candidate is flawed. The simple fact that the good doctor has an issue re her personal/professional management of the Covid outbreak should be addressed head on. Particularly in the context of a service appointment in an administration that ran on the inadequate response of the Trump White House.
As to the media narratives, we get to choose which is “fair and balanced”. We get to choose which organizations better exposes the facts material to a hiring decision. We can make a subsequent judgment as to whether our political leadership has managed the hiring process to insure a highly qualified candidate has been selected.
(In this media environment we’re screwed.)
