MickParticipantLong article on Gavin Newsom.
My take:
- Fits right in with the Progressives, though he tries to dress himself up as a moderate. Boasts of supporting health care to undocumented immigrants, twice sought to repeal the death penalty, only statewide elected official to back Prop. 47 which reclassified nonviolent offenses from felonies to misdemeanors.
- Opportunistic from the get-go. His two best friends in high school were the son of the Gettys and the son of Feinstein/Blum (chair of CBRE).
- California political journalist, jerry Roberts says “he is (grandiose) like Trump, and like Trump, his record is littered with failures.” Like Trump, he points out fake news, but more gently “makes you question the press” e.g., his rep is that he’s soft on crime, but the felony theft threshold in CA is $950, in TX it is $2,500.
- California passed bills allowing male criminals to self-identify into women’s prisons and a separate bill preventing schools from informing parents if their children adopt new names and pronouns.
- My sense is that people put up with Trump’s trolling, they don’t like or admire it. And Gavin’s tired trolling doesn’t help.
- Newsom is despised by Left/then Right/then Left/then Center Joe Rogan. Rogan left CA in large part because of Newsom’s policies.
- My take on Democrat state funding fraud, starting with COVID, is that it is the Democrats’ version of the trickle down theory…as long as they can get as much Federal funding as possible, they will turn a blind eye to the fraud, and hope they either don’t get caught or can hide as much of it as possible. Governor Walz is losing his job over a $9 billion fraud. The California fraud is thought to be $250 bils.+ . So the question is, did California lose control, or did we never have it at all? CA has already admitted to losing more than $55 billion in employment benefits with $20 billion stolen through organized fraud rings. How many more billions are lost through housing grants, SNAP, Medicaid, student aid? CA’s state auditor designated the EDD as “high risk”…that’s Medi’Cal, CalFresh, housing. Auditor documented $4 billion in questionable Medi-Cal payments alone. I had a friend whose legitimate employment benefits were held up for a full year.
- Dyslexic is in the article, so is the 960 SAT score. Do we want some that intellectually incapable to be our President?
- He is out-Clintoning Bill Clinton, to whom he has been compared.
