In 2020, Biden won independent voters by 15 points. Harris currently polls as behind by 1 point in a recent PBS/NPR/Marist poll.
New poll reveals 7-point dip for one candidate with independent voters (msn.com)
Separately, a CBS/YouGov poll released on Sunday found Trump and Harris tied in Pennsylvania, while Harris slightly leads Trump 50% to 49% in Michigan and 51% to 49% in Wisconsin. The poll found Trump leading Harris on the economy 58% to 42% and on inflation 62% to 37%. Given Trump’s history of outperforming polls, this sounds pretty good.
One other point regarding the NYT/Siena poll. It showed Trump with a 1% edge over Harris, as noted. What I failed to note was that the poll indicated Trump had a 46% to 44% edge over Harris when third party candidates were concerned.
If Trump has a good — not necessarily great — performance tonight, I think he wins the Presidency.
