Anyone watching this HBO series? It is an alternate time line, where Lindberg defeats FDR in 1940 presidential election.

Story revolves around a Jewish family in New Jersey, and rising antisemitism in the US.   Worth the time, IMO.

I will check it out, Dawg.  I have one for you.

I have been watching the new One America series called “Deluded” about the 2020 election where Biden defeats Trump.  It has been an incredibly satisfying experience to watch upper middle class Democrats watch in revulsion and amazement as they look helplessly as their jobs disappear, riots extend to their once comfortable suburbs and taxes rise as bureaucracy in DC sucks up a greater percentage of a shrinking collective income. It has been incredibly demoralizing to watch China take over Taiwan without any American intervention and Israel disappear from the middle eastern map under threat of the combined Turkish, Iranian and Russian military.  Most distressing has been the helplessness of the now expanded Supreme Court of 15 justices to oppose the new executive orders from the White House while the other two branches of government including the Senate from all 52 states as well as the expanded house with diminished representations from former red states and expanded ones from California, Illinois, Washington and New York rubber stamp any proposals from the new administration.

I cannot wait to see the next episode where President Harris conjures up charges against Bill Kristol, John Kasich, Colin Powell and the Bush family for publicly complaining about the new administration policies they daftly claim they never understood or imagined.  I am heartened that those in rural America seem to be gaining in strength in their alliance to overthrow the regime in DC.  I am particularly impressed with that fellow in St Augustine who is deftly spearheading the resistance.  We will have to wait and see if like minded groups from the Portland area and southern Texas  establish links with their southeastern brethren to oppose Adam Schiff, the newly appointed head of the secret police.

I wonder if there will be the need for a season 2.

Where does one access “Deluded”?  Sounds wildly entertaining.  Funny, when you “google” it, the first few listings are to diatribes about how massively extremist the OAN is and they try to completely discredit it as a source.  Of course, the network doesn’t make much of an effort to be anything more than a rumor mill.  It keeps folks minds bordering on explosion.  It represents an appropriate response to Media Matters (which was the source of one of the critiques I mentioned at the outset).

I have it from a good source that the much of the inspiration for the Deluded series came from a reading of Poldark on PBS masterpiece.  And you thought PBS was just another arm of the mainstream, soon to become state media.

I wonder about that.  FDR beat Willkie by 5 million votes in 1940, winning 38 states.  I don’t see how Lindbergh could have beaten FDR.  It had been 13 years since he’d flown the Atlantic, and five years since his child was kidnapped and murdered.

Lindberg ran as the antiwar candidate, vowing to keep USA out another European war.  (Hitler was Europe’s, not ours).

WWI ended just 12 years before.  Wasn’t that big of leap to believe a strong feeling of isolationism existed for Lindberg to leverage.

I throw up my hands at ‘Plot Against America’.

The America Firsters were never a serious political movement. Its influence on the American political process was exactly zero. Like ‘Lovecraft Country’, it’s a fantasy demonization of American history.

      Enough.

I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness - yeah, and a little looking out for the other fella, too.

GR, it is a fantasy – an alternate time line.  It is not a what was story, it’s a what if story.

My own foray into contrafactual history has been compared favorably to Roth’s book. Here’s the link. Both explore serious themes in that genre.

However, the TV show elevates the residual anti-Semitism of the times into a major political force. Lindbergh never had a chance.
