I remember visiting Portland for the first time in 1987 to visit my cousins and to attend a wedding.  My cousins were half-Hawaiian (Japanese ethnicity) and half-caucasian. During that weekend, they were the only people I saw who weren’t 100% caucasian, near as I could tell.

While Portland is now home to the weird and tragically Left, The Atlantic remembers a time when it was one of the most racist cities in the United States.

Last census data has PDX population at 8%  AA.  A big irony with Portland is locals see themselves as inclusive, open and a real life example of the big tent principle.  Well, PDX is a big tent until you think differently or view life differently than the white, puffy, wool pants wearing and Subaru Forrester driving folks that live here.

Nope, that makes you a narrow minded, racist, hater, stereotypical old white man.

This web site says that African American populations remained a fairly constant percentage of the overall Portland community (2.5% to 2.7%) from 1980 through 2000, though all other non-Caucasian races grew quickly.  Total Hispanic population grew from 2.0% to 7.4% and Other, Non-Hispanic races grew from 3.2% to 8.4% in 2000.

      Foreign-born population increased significantly between 1970 (3.9%) and 2000 (10.8%).
