After 10 straight Fed Funds increases, along with rising inflation and rising interest rates, the American banking system is failing the stress tests at the regional banking level. Consolidation and mergers are coming, and half of the country’s 4,672 lenders will likely disappear. Big banks, not surprisingly, have outperformed regional banks. And the U. S. banking system is unique. The UK has the next most banks with just 311.
