Here are excerpts from a summary article on the state of the “vaccine art”. Several things are fascinating to me. Some of the Phase 1 & 2 trials excluded participants over the age of 55…the very group that is most at risk for adverse outcomes from infection. The trials of the Chinese vaccine included older participants but their viral vector vaccine is less effective on that group as they have existing antibodies that attack their human cold virus based “carrier”.
“The Lancet also published results of another vaccine, from the Chinese biotech CanSino, that had been previously released. The Phase 2 results showed that, as was seen in the Phase 1 data, the vaccine induced neutralizing antibody responses — which could be vital to preventing the disease’s dangerous symptoms — in most subjects. But further study continues to show that this vaccine works better in some people than others. And among those it didn’t work as well in were people aged 55 and older, a key target for Covid-19 vaccination.”
- “Many people have had previous infections with adenovirus 5, raising concerns that the immune system would focus on the Ad5 parts of the vaccine rather than the SARS-Cov-2 material fused to it. Many research groups that work on viral-vectored vaccines stopped using Ad5 because of concerns about preexisting immunity, which can run to 70% or higher in some populations.”
“In the Oxford trial, participants were between the ages of 18 and 55 and split roughly 50-50 between male and female. Ninety-one percent of volunteers were white, while roughly 5% were Asian, and fewer than 1% were Black.”
The news media & the White House have focused coverage of vaccine development on the post dosage production of antibodies and T-cells to fight covid-19 infection. But when the speed of development and distribution is of the essence, why would tests be purposefully constructed to exclude those most at risk to infection?
Are we being too optimistic/misled about the status of vaccine development? {By Pharma, the media, the White House & by Biden?} Is the vaccine solution cart before the horse? Will TC be quarantined, frustrated and bitter for years to come? And TC, just as information, I have volunteered to participate in a Phase 3 trial cycle. I’m doing my part. I’m putting my health where your mouth is. You’re welcome.

Think about this: if coronaviruses were so easy to vaccinate against that we could do a crash course for one brand new virus type, then why is the common cold so common?
Yes, vaccination will be a challenge.
If I were a bureaucrat throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at this vaccine initiative, I would be royally pissed that only 1 percent of trial participants are black. AAs are getting slammed hard by COVID due to location and cultural behaviors.

LOL. Frustrated and bitter? We are doing so well that it would probably make you jealous. We can’t see our grandson and that is big but everything else is smooth as silk. I’m supervising six projects on our 3 acres in a Doug Fir forest. we are imputing a bunch of dollars back into the local immigrant Latino community, we are making Lunny Construction and Golden State Lumber rich and having a whale of a time doing it. Salmon on the grill twice a week, eating beef from two rancher cousins, gearing up to teach a couple of fourth grade subjects to a shut in in Memphis, playing golf with my buddies of thirty years, having roundtables with SI classmates of six decades, keeping in Skype touch with two terminally ill classmates, banging balls into a new golf net and supporting my spouse’s non-profit production and cancer help website. I don’t have time to wring my hands over ancient reactionaries and personally isolated Cassandras in gated communities weeping over the End of Civilization As We Know It. I still have time to do baseball trivia with Lexie, Mickie and Bobbbbbbbbbbie over on the EXCELLENT Cardboard site (actually they speak football there) and in my spare time play online bridge, edit old photos and read a couple books a week. I hardly have time to make myself a Pt. Reyes Blue grill cheese for lunch.
So go ahead and post your links and stay safe pal. None of it is your fault. Just like some of our guys imprisoned in Korea you have been brainwashed by a guy who gives not two shits for you in D.C.

Hey, no knock PL. You are doing well in regards to providing a forum where none exists and you are providing psychological help to a few followers of Reactionism who are apparently lost in a world of imminent fear of the Apocalypse.
I meant no knock to this site. You are not yet qualified for Sainthood PL but you are on the list of Beatification for this service. Since nobody here is talking about football and my trivia effort was met with, well, nothing I take classes at TOS for football and Off Topic name games.

SIP is not hiding under your bed and delivering a screed about the USA becoming a Socialist or Communist state. BTW I always have been amusing… class clown, fantastic bench jockey in between starts, comic on the headset during boring World Series of Poker shifts. If masks 24-7 is tyranny then stage a protest, write “Masks are Tyranny” on the sidewalk, run for office. If you’re not willing to do that then take Joe P’s advice and STFU.

LOL again. You have no idea how the year is going. The Traitor in Chief is going down and if that’s wrong this time an impeachment and removal is certain. Touched a nerve? I will bring the topic back on course:). I don’t have insider visibility on the Covid clinical trial designs, but rest assured that there is very strict inclusion/ exclusion criteria for all these endeavors. Companies Merck et al) Regulators ( FDA, EMA) , IRB ( hospitals conducting trials). So I trust there are valid reasons for the way things are being run. Given how fast the players need to move with pressure from every segment of society, the cost/ benefit analysis gave us what we have. And no, there will not be a magic bullet vaccine ( too much we don’t know about Covid) and no, not by the fall and no not everyone that wants it will get it initially.
