Lima Peru “Central” No 1?  Huh?   I know Peru a little and second to Bolivia the worst food I’ve eaten.  But then again I once ate grilled lizard on a stick late one night in Central America.  Other travelers I know tell me the best food is in Thailand.

Anyone eaten at any of the top 50?

I don’t travel much anymore.  Nonetheless it is interesting to see the regional shifting in the list. Five years ago, the list included a number of restaurants located in Capetown. I traveled to see the daughter’s in laws and visited The Test Kitchen. (Since closed. The chef wanted to go in a different direction.). It was remarkable. One option with the tasting menu was a tea paring served at room temperature. I became a tea fanatic and still trade with their Singapore based purveyor.

I too would be interested to hear first hand input about any of the restaurants on the list.

This list is different from The Michelin ratings.  Looking through both lists they are selling a lot of drama with the food.   NY’s top places get over $1000/head.  I took a detailed look at some of the menus and there is only so much you can do.  But I would like to try the Fat Duck in London (Michelin #4).

Of all the places I’ve been, I would have to admit that California cuisine is generally the best based on my limited experiences.   Seattle too.  But that has a lot to do with Copper River Salmon and King crab – at least for my taste.

I’d be interested in that Singapore based purveyor too.

The vendor is TWG Tea. I’ve been pleased with their products. Here is their web site:

Ps:  I purchased a Breville Tea unit that allows you to set the brew time in 30 second increments and the water temperature in 5 degree increments. I’m dangerous now!!  😉

      Couple of minor observations:

      1. In the Top 50 list, there are three restaurants in Mexico City and just two in NYC. There are four restaurants in Mexico City and four in New York in the Top 100. Apparently there are twelve (12) restaurants in London that made the Top 100. Okay…
      2. Speaking of which, there are only two American restaurants in the Top 50, and only four in the Top 100; three in NYC and one in San Francisco (Saison).
      3. I think NYC cuisine is the most overrated in the country, perhaps in the world. I’ve only dined at about 40 restaurants in NYC, so I know my exposure is limited, but only the very most expensive restaurants are exceptional, in my view.
      4. Lots of differences between Michelin three star guide and this list.

I’d take Mexico City over NY.
