rjnwmillParticipantThe lyrics of his song, Gary, Indiana 1959. This song captures the results from the policy failures by our political leadership in the last 50 years. Our leadership “waved their magic wands” to create industrial/manufacturing jobs…overseas. They created the new moniker now used to describe blue collar middle class towns, “Rust Belt”. When the Orange stepped up and called bs, they said it couldn’t be done.
I’m old, weak and grey and I’m running out of time
Yeah, but you should have seen me, brother, when I was young and in my prime
Back in Gary, Indiana in 1959I was a steel working man with 2 kids and loving wife
And the Union was strong, smokestacks burning day and night
Back in Gary, Indiana in 1959But then the accountants and lawyers and bosses at U.S. Steel
Sent down the word that we had to take their rotten deal
But from Birmingham to Pueblo, Oakland to Allentown
The workers got together and we shut the Big Boys down,
The President and Supreme Court tried to force us off the line
Back in Gary, Indiana in 1959Now the years have disappeared in the blink of an eye
And I feel like a stranger in world that isn’t mine
My dear wife died, my kids all moved away
Cause there’s nothing round here to make them want to stay
Cause the factories are in ruins, decent jobs are hard to find
And you can’t get ahead no matter how hard you try
Cause the Big Boys make the rules, tough luck for everyone else
And out on the streets, brother, it’s every man for himself
But I still remember when we marched side by side
Back in Gary, Indiana in 1959Don’t bury my body, brother, when it’s my time to die
Just throw me in that smelter and let my ashes fly
Back home to Gary, Indiana in 1959Here’s the Alvin song, enjoy. For some, turning around 50 years of misguided economic/security policy doesn’t commend the D Bag for a second term. He’s not smiley enough for them perhaps? He is openly contemptuous of political adversaries with wrong headed ideas predicated on personal self interest. {Some feel Hunter Biden isn’t disqualifying for the old man…after the DoS staff testified they directly raised the subject of conflict of interest with Biden’s office?} Help me here Roscoe, who imposed steel and aluminum tariffs in March of 2018. That would be 14 months into his first term. Who openly discussed the national security/economic vulnerability associated with our supply chains? Who redid NAFTA? Who turned us into a net energy exporter? Who has been actively linking China to the Wuhan virus…to the great detriment to their international standing? {As the press and political opponents have labeled him a racist???}. Who made us the ventilator exporter to the world? Who will likely deliver a vaccine that is 50%+ effective in under 12 months instead of 15 years? Who is openly curtailing the CCP’s spying and IP theft efforts in the US & globally?Roscoe, it is amazing to me that you consider the D Bag’s performance inadequate. Having watched Orange establish that record during bs investigations into Russian collusion & a palace revolt over a phone call with the head of the Ukranian government orchestrated by Schiff, Pelosi and Shumer? An impeachment? McCain bailing on an Obamacare vote he personally promised to deliver during the 2016 campaign? You engage in your high minded preening around here and declare your not voting in 2020 and will be equally happy with another four years of Obama.Explain that to Dave Alvin & the good citizens of Gary, Indiana.Here's a toast with one last pour, may it last forever and a minute more;
Good fortune seems to you have sung, to live and love way past long -
