…Stanford, class of ’42, took Japanese Economic History taught by a deputy ambassador from Japan. On Monday, December 8 he watched that man get taken out of the class in handcuffs.

The deputy ambassador addressed the Pearl Harbor bombing. He stated that he felt that the Empire of Japan was in the right in the dispute over oil, rubber and the like, but that they chose the wrong way to express it.

The Axis powers didn’t think much of the American military. In 1917, prior to the American entry into WWI, they had no army when they declared war in April, 1917. By late 1918, America had landed 2 million troops in Europe…without losing a single man in transit.

In 1918, the American industry was 50th in the world in artillery production. By the end of the year, they were producing more artillery shells than England, France and German combined.
