In order to identify the source of the leak of Alito’s draft opinion, there are only 36 USSC clerks to interview. Presuming the guilty party does not wish to commit a felony, 18 usc 1001, by lying to the Feds, I should think finding the culprit could be accomplished relatively quickly.

Delay encourages speculation as to commitment and/or competency.

Yes.   Would seem to be fairly easy given the tight restrictions that USSC clerks are under regarding any material they are allowed to review because they are so closely monitored.   They can’t leave the building with any print. Everything is destroyed daily.

Suppose it were a clerk of a conservative Justice.  Would they have to recuse themselves?  But if it were a liberal Justice would they do the same?  So what are the odds that this is resolved quickly?

I also find it remarkable at how fast these protests were put together.  Many within hours.  Are they professional on-call protesters?

      Nothing passes the smell test.

It’s just more grist for the mill.  Of course you can find the leaker quickly. I don’t know if the leak constitutes a crime, but it certainly constitutes an ethics breach, and that might not look good on a resume.

It’s not clear to me the authority the court marshall has to interview and investigate.

In any event, yes, this should be rather quick.  And, if the SC wants to ensure no suspicion of political activity, it should be quick.  But…who knows.

For me, I think it was professor plum in the library.
