As we continue to support Ukraine with more and more sophisticated weapons, and the Russians rattle their sabers more loudly with their nation’s nuclear forces on high alert with their forces on “enhanced” combat duty, we have to ask whether Putin would consider using nukes in Ukraine. Here are three situations:
3 Scenarios for How Putin Could Actually Use Nukes – POLITICO
And what if Putin felt that America needed to be eliminated? What would happen if there was a nuclear missile strike from the Russians?
First targets would be to strike at our offensive capacity in Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming…where we have Minuteman ICBM III bases (550 separate launch control centers and silos). Then other ICBM launch control centers: MX and silos (55). That would be the highest priority for Putin. Next would be subs and planes with missiles out of Georgia, Washington, Missouri and Louisiana.
Next might be command/control centers in Maine, Colorado, Hawaii and Washington (18). Then nuclear storage depots in Utah and New Mexico (10).
Then strategic bomber bases and other military airfields (106). Then civilian airports (60). Then SLBM facilities.
Then other Naval bases and naval yards (18). Then nuclear warhead design & production facilities (14). Then Political/Military Leadership and infrastructure (33). Then urban centers of commerce and selected state capitols (50). Then electric power plants (342) representing about 2/3 of U.S. electric generation capacity.
And finally, population centers, probably starting with New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles.
