For four generations, American has been the military backbone offsetting Soviet and now Russian aggression. NATO was formed with twelve member countries in 1949. Four countries joined before USSR’s dissolution (Spain, West germany, Turkey and Greece).

16 NATO members joined after Soviet dissolution, most of which were part of the Communist empire.

The USA supplies 70% of the funding and military might of NATO, and the other member countries have contributed a smaller-than-required percentage of their GDP. 10 of the 32 countries are above the 2% minimum (Poland, USA, Baltics, Finland, Romania, Hungary, UK). France is close at 1.88%., Croatia and Slovakia at 1.81%. The rest are 1.72% or less.

There is support in the USA to finally pull out of NATO. We’ve been pulling back from being the world’s policeman for the last generation as our national debt climbed to $37 trillion.

The strategic consequences of the U.S. pulling out of NATO are far more severe for everybody who is not the U.S.

the real question is what does NATO stand for?  It was formed to keep the U.S. in, Germany down, and Russia out.  What is it for now?

We will cut back. We will force others to contribute their fair share. We will not withdraw.
