59% of Republicans believe patriotism is important. 23% of Dems do. Not surprising at all. . . .

    Stay classy, Stanford.

Law students protest the Dean for her apology to Judge Duncan, and those who didn’t join in the protest.

Great knowledge, from Mick and Beeg, as usual. Thanks. Dug a little into the Reagan info, and during his first three terms, the Republicans had control of both the House and the Senate. It was his Omnibus Budget Bill that pushed funding of the mentally ill to the states. Allegedly. As always, there is a lot more to what really transpired than what is conveniently put forth as fact.

    Comments from Duncan:

‘This is one of the best law schools in the world. The students are the cream of the crop. The future judges, senators, presidents, leaders of industry.

‘And yet here is a mob of the best and brightest, shouting down a federal judge who’s been invited to campus, and thereby demonstrating that they don’t have the foggiest grasp of the basic concept of legal discourse: you have to meet reason with reason. Instead, their operating principle is: If I don’t like what you say or think, I will silence you.

‘Unless those students undergo a radical change in their whole approach to argument and disagreement, they are unfit to be members of any bar.’ “

“She says the right things but kind of continues whipping the mob up while basically telling Judge Duncan to leave.”

Disturbing that she came into the “situation” with prepared remarks. . . .

“This is one of those situations where the Progressives (who have taken over) really only care about the bottom 10%, maybe the bottom fifth of American society.”

Mick, if only that were true. Look at the inner cities, the homeless, the rural poor, the state of immigration. Progressives don’t give a hoot about the bottom 10% and never have. Progressives care about agendas, and have their agendas helped the bottom 10? Not in generations.

Merry Christmas to all from Tuscaloosa. Been several years due to Covid etc since we’ve seen my wife’s family in the Deep South. Great to see them. Great for my teenager to see them!

Yeah, I posted on the other site that Stanford continues with institutional racism as most departments offer advanced degrees steeped in racism. One called out my comment, thinking I was referring to ethnic studies as not being a worthwhile major. Sucks being a conservative and therefore painted with the broad, racist brush, but oh well.

I had added the keywords “becoming adept” to my original comment, but he failed to grasp that “becoming adept” in the new world order should replace “master”, as of course “master” refers to slavery.

So Stanford will soon be changing their advanced degrees to a Became Adept at Science and a Became Adept at Arts. . . .

    Mick,

Thanks! Where in No Cal do you find yellow perch filets? That’s a Northeast (and Michigan) fish. Sounds great, though.

Like the Balsamic glaze on the salmon idea. Gotta give that a shot now that my daughter enjoys balsamic vinegar. . . .

Nice Mick! Can you pass on any vegetarian/pescatarian recipes? Always trying to find dishes for my daughter.

With the rates they’re charging, can’t see why it’s not sooner. They are 2-3X that of SMUD next door. . . .
I see the thought police closed the thread on the cardboard. So let’s have it out here. my take? Tragic circumstances. Katie was obviously far more fragile than anyone knew.
Yeah, I got banned for awhile because of my take. I thought one post was incredibly egregious and I called him/her out, saying he/she was callous and ignorant of mental health issues faced by kids today. Ad hominem attack, so said the powers that be, though one poster, a pediatrician, thanked me privately for the post.

Not wanting to go into the details, my daughter is an athlete, and for a variety of reasons has really struggled the last year or so, on top of covid and the lockdowns. A major surgery, a club team that offered no support to help her recover (actually put in barriers), a second separate medical issue, an abusive and threatening high school coach and just being a high school girl.

She seems to be weathering the storms, but the last week of the polo season, I’d never seen her as fragile as she was. A mere mention of the coach and team created a visceral reaction. To the other parents on the team who know what’s she’s be through, and put through put through by the coach, she’s incredibly strong. I do too, but have seen a side that makes me pretty concerned and protective.

One more big thing to deal with and . . . .

I very much feel for Katie’s parents and wish them the best as they deal with unimaginable grief.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Glad we do have this site, even if it’s just for a few enthusiasts.

New t-day recipe. Roasted turnips and carrots. My 16 year old vegetarian absolutely loved them. We’re in the sticks back East, and a neighbor noted that fresh turnips are in. Never ate one, let alone cooked one in my life. . .. Gotta admit, they were indeed very tasty! Rutabagas next year. . . .

Here’s the message, actually to OST with you cc’d.

    Wokeism: Be Careful. . . .

    OST,

I’m sure you realize that the Old Spanish Trail facilitated slavery of indigenous peoples of the Southwest. Your utilization of the moniker for your online persona could be perceived in unintended ways. FWIW, wokeism shows little tolerance, even in the most benevolent of situations. . . .

    Best,

    CC
