LegendKeymasterCool background story. Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of.

LegendKeymasterAt this point I would just about vote for Kanye.
and I agree. Sobering list. Exciting that we live in a society that has to sort this stuff out in public. Should be fun.

LegendKeymasterAn interesting scenario would be if trump were to withdraw. I don’t think he has it in him, but sure would like to contemplate the possibility of his successor.

LegendKeymasterThe positive rate has increased lately, but it is by no means “high” compared to May, when tests were becoming more readily available.
I’m not at all arguing against your point, but am trying to provide context. The recent blip in positive rates may mean people are getting sicker, but it can also mean that fewer doctors are ordering the tests for anybody who is curious. Greater test discipline has to be factored in.

LegendKeymasterI think of community organizers as being akin to union organizers and many people (not you) make the leap to a pithy “commie” implication. It is said for effect.
there are many community organizers who don’t go by that name, of course. Chambers of commerce would qualify. As would rotarians, lions clubs, and even YMCAs. I mean, jeez, the NRA are essentially community organizers, and damned good ones.
I DO think that these sorts of organizations are useful to improving things for a given community. I DO NOT believe that all of them are equivalent. Organizations that simply seek to accumulate power, regardless of ends, are the ones that should be the most examined. That’s my chief criticism of political parties.
and, hey, I have no issue with a city reallocating it’s resources to community services instead of police. What could be more american than letting localities govern themselves. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with what they are doing, of course, but then again I have the privilege of not having to live or work where these things matter. I’m astounded at how politicians will do things that their constituents “want” without explaining to them what it really means.
In other words, I’m no relativist, I just don’t give a shit what some politician or community organizer in Minnesota is doing beyond mere entertainment. If it works, we should all do it. If it doesn’t, then shame on them for not listening, and pity the poor man who can’t vote with his feet.

LegendKeymasterI think it’s fair to say that not all first responders are worthy of the title hero, and not all community organizers are commies.
The issue we have so, so wrong these days is the inability to think in shades of gray. I blame twitter, facebook, and the opening of very narrow minds to the masses. That means you guys.

LegendKeymaster
I can’t believe political leaders implemented policies costing more than $6 trillion resolving the issues you highlight. There has to be a better approach for managing in an uncertain environment?
There is, but we stopped letting people own their own risk a long time ago. The federal government as a backstop to every major risk to the elite class is expected of not codified.

LegendKeymasterBefore Rocky leaves, I will just ask him to click the link below (response #1013) and let us all know if this was his “censored” post that was “removed.”
and, if so, I can only say: lighten up Francis.
You were referencing posts in a different thread and could have looked up your history on your own before complaining about censorship and removal. If you need to leave the board, then leave, but don’t take so many posts to explain why. I value your contributions but I think you are seeing censorship ghosts too often right now.
I have never met you but hear you are a lovable little guy in person. Now how about taking your fun sized self and having some fun mixing it up here. Huh?

LegendKeymasterI view this place like stone soup. Everybody brings a little bit of something. Some of it crazy, most of it smart. Some with invective and some with inquiry. We need perspectives from across the spectrum, and the backbone for them to talk to each other. Roscoe and TC bring the spice and the willingness to call people out. Doc does the same. Gr brings the professorship. Mick brings…well, mick. Bob, cc, etc etc etc.
opinions are and should be welcome. Comparisons to historical events should be too.
and, while I view holocaust jokes as being generally beyond the pale, I like a good female genitalia reference. They aren’t as common as they used to be. (The references, not the genitalia)

LegendKeymasterIf you think you are seeing censorship on this site, you aren’t.
I have never removed a post. One poster has leveled that accusation both in private and in public and I have responded in private and in public that I am not censoring posts. If something was removed it was done either by the poster of by some nuance to the board software that I’m not aware of.
I do reserve the right to remove whiny personal victim hood posts and other posts if this cat fight gets out of hand or if one of you turns into foof.
Maybe my thought of attracting the few thoughtful CEB posters will in fact turn into just another lord of the flies website. I sure hope not.

LegendKeymasterOh lord. I lol’d at tc’s post and the. Rocky happened. Not worth being so serious. Seriously.
as to “Rhett,” I just ask you: are there any associations with the antebellum south that are actually ok? Should we shitcan the cotton gin since it helped slavery hold on?

LegendKeymaster
lets call it a Zimbardo experiment. 6 square blocks is not a gunpowder plot…the scope is off.
funny you bring up phil Z. The police issue is the phil Z experiment.
ok, so the scope is off, UK parliament much smaller. Fewer people died in the gunpowder plot, but both were about about a functional overthrow of government. Just another rebellion. ‘Course the gunpowder plotters were drawn and quartered, so there’s that.

LegendKeymasterEverybody wants their egregious errors to be considered “teachable moments.” Reminds of when Obama said that about the cops acting stupidly.
how about we call chop what it was: another gunpowder plot that failed.
