ParticipantWhere was this team all year? This team could have beaten Colorado. Maybe it could have beat Oregon (after all, Cal beat Oregon today). Hopefully this team shows up next week and beats Oregon State. I posted my thoughts on The Bootleg.

ParticipantI was thinking the same thing today rogpodge.
However upon reflection I remember that during the good years Shaw’s teams often started slowly and improved during the season. That tendency works better on full seasons with 12 games where the kinks are ironed out against non conference opponents.

ParticipantYou guys forget that in a normal year we have 4 “preseason” games to lose….
“I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I

ParticipantDavis Mills missed Oregon game due to covid BS. Cal beat Oregon. We beat Cal.
With Mills we probably beat Oregon, especially since we had red zone issues without him and also had Toner’s 4 missed FGs.
With the Oregon game under his belt, Mills probably plays better enough that we beat Colorado.

ParticipantNo, but we might be the best team in the Pac 12 north. Kind of like saying we would be national champions if David Shaw retired and the Pac 12 south, Big 12, Big 10 and SEC all gave up football.

ParticipantRocky, I imagine you are somewhat tongue in cheek, and honestly I haven’t been following football much lately. But it’s getting difficult for me to keep up. So many players & Stanford coaches with the same last names, don’t you know. How do you make sense of, “Peace takes the snap from Black Lives Matter and looks over the middle for Peace. End Racism wins on the edge against Love and pressures Peace. Peace dumps the ball to flat to an open Black Lives Matter who is tackled immediately by End Racism.”
ps: I don’t think our defense is all that…except at blocking kicks.

ParticipantOur D has youth but little depth, especially at D line. We need big time recruiting help there. Our O has really great potential; we will have the best O line in the Pac 12 next year with possibly a WR group in the top 2. We have potentially 5 guys at WR who will be good enough to start. Our RB group will be exceptional with Jones and Peat. We need a TE who can catch and run great routes. If Mills sticks around and is healthy, our O will be exceptional. The big question is David Shaw. Yesterday, whoever called the O game did a reasonably good job. Other games, it was atrocious and juvenile. We need D linemen big time, a TE who can catch and a whole lot of depth on the D. Too many injuries and players who have refused to play due to covid. Recruiting needs are obvious. We need a recruiting class with 15 great players with potential on D at all positions.
