      Written on February 5:

      Project 2025

I wish I had time to write more. Suffice to say, I think you guys have lost your minds. I always wondered how a well educated country like Germany could fall into madness in the 1930s. I never thought it would happen here. I’m not saying we are turning into a Nazi country, but it’s hard to find the right analogy. Maybe Spain in the 1930s? They suffered repression and stagnation until reforming 70 years later. Maybe a bit of Chinese Cultural Revolution with massive disinformation on social media, lobotomizing the country. A bit of Venezuela over the last 25 years, implementing insane economic policies.

We are our own unique case. There’s no perfect analogy. I’m sure some of it will look ok on the surface, at the expense of our civil society, democracy, rule of law, etc.

We have entered a dark chapter in American history. I am astonished you guys don’t see it.

The Big Police State bill is dystopian. I hope your grandkids forgive you someday for voting for this shit. I hope you speak out when the Gestapo comes to your neighborhood.

Would you mind laying out the top 3 police state points?

      Allow me to translate.

“I can’t or won’t point out specific policies that I don’t like. All I know is that I really, really, REALLY don’t like the current President. Above all else, I am a Progressive, and I live in the land of make-believe, which is preferable in all ways to the current land. So because I can’t point to ridiculous Progressive policies, I will instead resort to name-calling. We Lefties have been calling Republicans “Hitler” — even Republicans who are frankly moderate and adopt some liberal and left positions, like…well…all Republican presidents.

“The worst part, the really worst part is that the President is effective. He says what he’s going to do and he does it. I will ignore the fact that Lefty Dem Presidents also tell lies regularly, and I will scream from the rooftops that our salesman (true) of a President tells actual lies, while our Lefty lawyer presidents merely lie through omission, misdirection, obfuscation and selective silence or their puppets weigh in.

“And because he is effective, it is not enough to merely call him ‘Hitler’ which has been worn out from half-a-century of misapplication. Therefore, I will throw everything I can at the wall to see if something sticks; e.g., Spain, China, Russia, Germany, North Korea, Iran. I will pretend the President is an agent for one more of those countries, when in actuality, my last President accepted money from foreign adversaries through his son. We even have him on video bragging about it. And we will pretend that his son didn’t have damning evidence on his computer, we’ll pretend that was a Russian plot…sure, that’s it. A Russian plot.

“And I will ignore the fact that he is a former Democrat and has quite a few former Democrats in his circle, and I will ignore the 15 Progressive policies (e.g., Defund the Police) that the Left still supports (see recent NYC mayoral candidate).

“And I will pretend that my political opponents are too stupid to see what only I can plainly see and laud myself in the comments and title of my post. Yes, I have my gaslight-o-meter dialed up to 11.”

I have to say, I agree w/ BT.  I have many, or even most of thos thoughts every day.  Mine are about how otherwise-normal seeming folks can back delusional, evil thinking assholes.  There are a very few sane Democrats, but mostly they get ignored.  Instead you back people who encourage ALL the real political violence in the country.  And Mick is right.  All the noise about Jan 6 is absolutely theater.  Here’s a 5-min video by three smart guys saying how excited they are about the BBB:

I like moderate Democrats and I’ve voted for them. I backed Obama over McCain, I backed Romney over Obama. But the centrist Democrats are a vanishing breed. I’d have voted for Sam Nunn. But I can’t fathom a country that takes someone like AOC seriously. Or Kamala Harris. Or Tim Walz. Or the Crew or Sisterhood or whatever they call themselves, or most of the NYC mayoral candidates. I can get behind Mayor Lurie or Harold Ford Jr. (last chair of the Democrat Leadership Council) but much as I’d like to because they’re from my two favorite colleges, I can’t get behind Gavin Newsom or Adam Schiff.

I like a lot of left-leaning policies. I like taxation of wealth, including estate and otherwise. I like politicians who tackle tough problems, like actuarial disasters like Social Security.

And speaking of the DLC… man, did the Democrats tthat or what. It was created to shift away from the leftward turn taken by the Dems. Best result was Clinton’s twin victories. And now Democrats hate masculinity, to the point that they felt they needed to spend $20 million to learn how to speak to the half of the human race that they have vilified for the past half-century. A topic for another time.

Democrats, if you want a road map back to success in politics, read this:

      Democratic Leadership Council – Wikipedia

Incidentally, there was a Republican equivalent, named (naturally) The Republican Leadership Council, led by one of my favorite Republicans, former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman.

Speaking of Newsom, his CA Repub Gov. candidate Steve Hilton slammed Newsom for traveling across country to meet rural residents in South Carolina as parts of California remain in ruins.

Steve Hilton calls Newsom ‘a disgrace’ for ditching California to meet with South Carolina voters

Hilton’s not wrong. Newsom is more interested in running for President than being governor. There hasn’t been a Republican governor since Schwarzenegger in 2003. If Harris is Hilton’s opponent, there might be another one.

Mayor Lurie says there’s been a vibe shift in San Francisco and opinion polls show that people feel more confident in the city’s direction than in six or seven years. In fairness, that’s a pretty low bar:

San Francisco has undergone ‘vibe shift,’ new mayor says

Six years ago, the son of terrorists, Chesa Boudin was elected District Attorney. London Breed was the mayor. And Union Square was open for business. But at least most crimes are down since Boudin has departed. Overdoses are way up since 2019

Video: Lurie said we would have 1,500 extra beds for the homeless (there’s 25,000 already). Didn’t hit that promise. Sounds like small, incremental steps are being made and maybe that’s all we can hope for. Says fentanyl really changed the game.
