Who commits terrorist attacks on American soil?

Got to thinking about a hate crime committed against two Israeli-Americans at Santana Row in my hometown of San Jose. Three middle-eastern attackers (one was an attorney with an active California bar license). Both victims were hospitalized.

From January, 1998 to May, 2022, there were 108 mass public shootings by 111 shooters. Demographics in declining order of proportion of population as follows. Population percentages taken from 2010 (just past the midpoint of the study):

• 7.7% were Middle Eastern (all happened to be Muslim), roughly 19 times their proportion of the overall population (0.4%).
• American Indian, 3.3% versus 1% of population
• Asian, 6.6% versus 4.8% of overall population
• Black (15.4%) versus 12.8% of population
• White, 54.9% versus 64.4% of overall population
• Hispanic, 9.9% versus 16.6% of population
