I view this place like stone soup. Everybody brings a little bit of something. Some of it crazy, most of it smart. Some with invective and some with inquiry. We need perspectives from across the spectrum, and the backbone for them to talk to each other. Roscoe and TC bring the spice and the willingness to call people out. Doc does the same. Gr brings the professorship. Mick brings…well, mick. Bob, cc, etc etc etc.
opinions are and should be welcome. Comparisons to historical events should be too.
and, while I view holocaust jokes as being generally beyond the pale, I like a good female genitalia reference. They aren’t as common as they used to be. (The references, not the genitalia)

I have never removed a post. One poster has leveled that accusation both in private and in public and I have responded in private and in public that I am not censoring posts. If something was removed it was done either by the poster of by some nuance to the board software that I’m not aware of.
I do reserve the right to remove whiny personal victim hood posts and other posts if this cat fight gets out of hand or if one of you turns into foof.
Maybe my thought of attracting the few thoughtful CEB posters will in fact turn into just another lord of the flies website. I sure hope not.

ok, so the scope is off, UK parliament much smaller. Fewer people died in the gunpowder plot, but both were about about a functional overthrow of government. Just another rebellion. ‘Course the gunpowder plotters were drawn and quartered, so there’s that.

Lex, I think that’s a prescient take. The Carter comparison is a good one, just on a lot of different axes (he’s actually not that wrong on policy, but he’s mean…Carter was really nice but an awful president because of policy).
I’m thinking a dem sweep is a distinct possibility. I’d put Biden at 80% likely to win, the house at 95% likely to stay Dem, and the senate at 50/50. Only way that changes is if people wake up and realize that Democrat leaders letting mobs run free in society will eventually get to their doorstep.
The brutal reality is things are far worse in the country for all the things the left has done to oppose Trump, and not because of Trump from any policy perspective. Business was good. Trade was good. Taxation was modest. The deficit was an unspoken deal between the parties. The supreme court is functional, immigration has been somewhat checked but not stopped (pre-COVID at least), criminal justice reform passed, healthcare exchanges are still operating, foreign policy has been a string of decent singles if not home runs (ISIS, Afghanistan, NoKo, China, Latin America, even the EU).
And that’s really odd.
The opposition building opposition on demagoguery alone is a sad state of affairs (and not new). The reality is the left is out of ideas, and it only has sarcasm and hate to fall back on.

Republicans give substantially more of their income than Dems. I guess the Dems view paying their taxes as giving.
the only test for what people will really do is to give them the cover of anonymity. The internet proves every day how depraved people are when they can’t be identified.
