NASA is launching Artemis I for a 42 day journey around the moon. In a completely unanticipated development, the $6 billion budget ballooned to $20 billion.  Who knew?

The most powerful rocket ever made, it has 15% more thrust than the Saturn V rockets in the Apollo program.

Rule of thumb I apply to Portland area projects. Take the initial estimate times 3 and you are close to the final cost.  I see NASA is following the same model.

For clarity sake I’d change “the initial estimate” to “the projection used by politicians to justify the initial appropriation for project funding”.
