Forget about the fact that it is purely a product of a “woke” perspective. If you dig into it, you can see that her post will actually piss off woke people. Why? The following comments:
- “I could go way deeper into this…” a statement that both invites her to do so and condemns her when she will (likely) refuse to go deeper. Forget about the fact that this is a phrase and not a sentence.
- She acknowledges that there’s a “privilege for the younger white players” of the league. That’s, um…going to not make the older white players any happier.
- Here’s the biggie: “there is a privilege that we have inherently, and the privilege of appearing feminine. Some of my teammates are more masculine.” Technically true? Sure. Is it wise to reference teammates as both not being feminine and not appearing feminine?
- “I know I can feed into that because I like to dress femininely, but that’s just me.” That’s a little bit…problematic.
Whether she realizes it or not, I there are players and coaches in the league who will think Cam is throwing shade. There are people who will look for any reason to take offense from someone who is young and white and privileged…and claims to be so.
