…and have been for a very long time. Maher points out why (yes, I know it’s obvious) — they only cater to the liberal/progressive crowd.

There was a time when John Stewart was like Leno/Carson and would skewer both left and right, but it was years ago. Do you recall when Barack Obama was a first-time presidential candidate (and inexperienced Senator) and he would tour the country with a podium that had a “seal” that was virtually identical to the presidential seal? Stewart had no problem mocking it…he played video of Obama and his chanting crowd “Yes, we can! Yes, we can”…camera cuts to Stewart saying “But maybe you shouldn’t.” (copy the presidential seal)

You can’t find that video anywhere on the internet now. Because Stewart went fully Left.

Bill Maher Hits Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel for Parroting MSNBC

Not surprisingly, the middle-of-the-road hosts did well, as did the Right. Jay Leno was around 4 MM viewers per night, Gutfeld around 3.1 MM.

Lefties, not so strong: Colbert, 1.9 mm, Kimmel, 1.7 mm, Oliver 1.3 mm, Seth Meyers 1.2 mm. Maher is in the 500k to 900k range.

To be fair to Maher, he’s on HBO. Premium cable only is a different beast when it comes to ratings (and partially why the Gutfeld cable only number is so d—ing). But Seth Meyers is less political than the other three and still retaining most of Jimmy Fallon’s viewers (admittedly worse than Colbert or Kimmel).

I would like to see whether Bari Weiss will be successful when she takes over CBS News. If her more neutral approach is a success, maybe it will carry over into late night? I mean, the advertising opportunities are right there for the taking….

Colbert owes his job to Trump.  Least funny of late night hosts, IMO.  His audience grew as he bashed Trump.  His numbers have fallen, matching the popularity of the Liberal Left.
