      1. He said he didn’t cut the fire budget by $100 million. (FALSE). He increased the budget between 2018 and 2023, but cut the 2023/2024 budget by $144 million.
      2. Newsom said California did not run out of water and reservoirs are at record highs (TRUE, but…). He’s answering the wrong question. It’s true that all but three of CA’s major reservoirs are at or above historical levels, but the 117 million gallon Santa Ynez Reservoir was out of service.
      3. Newsom said CA’s save-the-smelt policy didn’t lead to wildfires. (MOSTLY TRUE). Water from other parts of the state wouldn’t have made a difference. Problem was access to water, and infrastucture that couldn’t handle a huge blaze. That said, hundreds of millions of gallons of fresh water is sent out to the ocean to save salmon and smelt.

      BTW, National Review is referring to Tulsi Gabbard as an “atrocious” nominee for director of national intelligence.
