LegendKeymasterSeems overdue. Strange to appoint Weiss who already bears some taint in the original plea deal.

cardcrimsonParticipantApparently, he asked to be appointed. Seems to be some subterfuge at play. . . .

ParticipantMany people saying that the purpose is to keep Weiss from answering Congressional questions because he can now cite “an ongoing investigation.” Others saying that a US Attorney handling the matter should not be appointed special counsel. Seems too clever by half.

rjnwmillParticipantWellll, count me as skeptical. What commends him for the job? The fact he approved and submitted to the court a flawed plea deal that would have terminated further investigation? The fact he and his staff allowed the statute of limitations to run on obvious additional tax charges? Or perhaps the fact he and his staff insured that investigators couldn’t pursue the facts that suggest Don Biden was involved in the grift?
I see nothing in the appointment that suggests that Garland/the President want to open the Kimono in the interest of transparency and governmental accountability.

LegendKeymasterNot to mention the us attorney also filed for change of venue for trial, which means they are judge shopping.
Something stinks.

ParticipantOdd they you all seem to think there’s some subterfuge going on with this appointment.
Last year 33 Republican members of Congress wrote a letter to Merick Garland, specifically asking that Weiss be given special counsel status.
Weiss, however, had never asked for such standing until very recently, saying that his investigation never required it; he was not impeded by lack of such status. Nevertheless, as soon as he asked, it was granted… And now many of these 33 Congressmen are complaining that Weiss was granted special counsel status.
As a reminder, by the way, Weiss is a Republican attorney, appointed by Trump — and appointed while Joe was a private citizen. But somehow this is fishy? The more likely explanation is that after several years of investigating Hunter — not to mention Comer’s failed House investigation — there is not much to this story besides a drug addict who played up his family name, while his father was a private citizen.
Meanwhile, all the so-called whistleblowers who are going to “expose” the nefarious wrongdoing by President Biden somehow turn out to be missing, or turn out to be Russian oligarchs, or Chinese spies, or Iranian arms dealers. Or the “star witness” that is finally going to blow the lid off the case testifies that President Biden was actually not involved. And the 17 audio tapes that are going to “expose” Joe Biden are somehow never to be found. Odd that some of you think a guy who has dementia and his drug addict son are able to outwit a multiyear investigation and a Congressional investigation.
So far the biggest actual evidence of anything are some dick pics. You’ve got the inmates running the asylum in the House, but you’re worried about Biden’s son playing up his family name like every famous family has done since forever.
Meanwhile, the Trump family — who was actually representing our government — made off with billions from the Saudis, whose Prince had said he had Kushner “in his pocket”. But somehow a guy who has never been part of the Biden administration is the boogie man.
Where is the thread on the CEB talking about the $2 billion Kushner and Ivanka Trump got? Or the $400 million they made while working in the White House? Or the patents and copywrites they received from the Chinese government? Where is the thread talking about the many millions of dollars Trump pocketed from foreign governments who “rented” empty spaces in his buildings & hotels while he was President, and who over-paid for hotel rooms at Trump’s properties?

cardcrimsonParticipantClassic “look over here, not over there”. The feds will sacrifice Hunter on a gun charge, while burying all the white collar crime he and the Bidens were involved with. Allegedly. . . .

Mick1ParticipantTax charges are around the corner for Hunter. Speaking as someone who spent a few decades in accounting/tax, and a few decades in law, I’d much, MUCH rather be facing gun charges than tax-related charges.

Hunter has taken the Steve Martin defense; e.g., “How many times do we get ourselves into trouble by not saying ‘I forgot to pay my taxes.'” That’s his defense, no kidding. Penalties and interest on $4.4 million in income is going to be substantial, but tax evasion is a felony that carries a maximum five year prison sentence. Biden also made over $2.6 million from CEFC China Energy, Ukrainian energy company Burisma and has ties to discredited law firm Boies Schiller. And that doesn’t include selling access to his father. Very curious as to how Joe Biden can afford his massive multiple mansions on a government salary.
Hate to be in his shoes.

cardcrimsonParticipantI keep hearing that the feds delayed so long that the Statute of Limitations has run on those charges. True or false. Also heard that they thought Manifort into solitary for pretty similar stuff, especially not registering as a representative of a foreign government? Hunter certainly has been a representative of companies owned by foreign govs . . . . .

Mick1ParticipantHunter Biden is indicted on nine tax charges with gun charges — in California, no less. Three of them are felonies. He had a plea deal, which imploded. He owed $1.4 million in taxes, which have since been paid:

DoJ charges evasion of assessment, Hunter could face 17 years in prison.

Judge was appointed by Trump. Filed in LA.

rjnwmillParticipantI’ve heard the suggestion that this indictment permits Hunter to avoid sworn testimony before Congressional Committees?
