Staten Islanders want to secede. They first approved secession in 1990 with a 65% vote approving the nonbinding referendum. This in part because Staten Island literally takes in 100% of the city’s garbage. The state legislature wasn’t interested.
New York, in my estimation, has made so much progress since the early 70’s when they were in deep trouble. only question to me now is how damaging this will be before wiser people get elected . . . or am I too optimistic and NY will go into a long-term downward socialist spiral?
