Mick1ParticipantThis is huge news, given that RFK will likely siphon off Democrat votes.
RFK Jr announces independent run for president against Biden | Fox News
Interesting sub-plot…the White House has denied RFK’s request for Secret Service protection, even though RFK and his time faced down an armed intruder at an RFK event.
Second interesting sub-plot…RFK implied that he would have continued to run as a Democrat had Biden agreed to a debate. But Biden (no surprise) doesn’t want a debate.

ParticipantI disagree. Several polls have him siphoning off swing Democrats that voted for Trump. Also independents turned off by Trump’s personality. I see him more as a Ross Perot type.

I agree that he would be a Ross Perot type, in that he’s a maverick anti-politician. I also agree that Kennedy has publicly stated he’ll siphon off more votes from Trump than Biden. Their poll indicated as such, though the Ipsos/Reuters poll indicated the opposite.
But RFK is (was) a Democrat. Doesn’t that indicate the opposite, that he will siphon off votes from Biden? Judging by the degree of anger I’ve seen from his fellow Democrats, they certainly don’t feel that he will attract Republican votes.

rjnwmillParticipantYo Obama, how’s that third term working out? Here are the two big questions for the 2024 cycle.
How do democrats dump Biden and Harris?
What stiff will they put up?

ParticipantI’d be reluctant to vote for him. The question I have is, “what’s in it for me if I vote for him?”
I’ve looked at his platform and I can say not much.

Mick1ParticipantApparently, Democrats think RFK could win…
The DC establishment thinks RFK could win, and they’re panicking
Kennedy has a 19% favorability lead over both Biden and Trump. He’s connecting on the issues; economy, exploding debt, U.S. involvement in two major open-ended military commitments, and a profoundly insecure border. He has more practical positions on abortion, marijuana, the environment and consistent defense of free speech and civil liberties.

ParticipantDoing some quick math, it looks like RFK Jr. erodes Trump’s support by about 9%, and Biden’s by about 3%. I’m assuming that West and Stein support comes from Biden’s side.

Mick1ParticipantCorrect. His donors are ex-Trump donors, comparatively few from Biden. Although…I wonder how many Dems and Independents will see “Kennedy” and pull the lever for him?
