Three freshly released polls — Quinnipiac, NYT/Siena and McLaughlin show Biden behind Trump. McLaughlin has Trump with a 2% lead, NYT/Siena shows a 4% lead among likely voters and a 6% lead among registered voters, and Quinnipiac shows a 4% Trump lead. Moreover, registered RFK voters indicate a greater propensity to vote for Trump if RFK is not part of it, and a higher percentage of Biden supporters indicated a willingness to change their votes.

Today was truly a sad day for America and for democracy. Trump had the opportunity to be presidential and take the high road. Instead, he yet again found a multitude of off-ramps, and eventually the gutter. Biden couldn’t find any road, high, low, paved, dirt. What’s scary, is what do the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, and North Koreans do over the next five months, when the US is clearly adrift with no-one at the helm?
As for democracy, the democrats and/or whoever is pulling the strings in DC (the alleged Deep State) have been lying to the American people for years. “Joe is fine.” “Joe is in command.” “Joe has all of his cognitive abilities.” Today has proven that there are powers in DC that the populace doesn’t know or understand, let alone vote for. Who is in control of the Executive Branch? It’s clearly not Joe. To me, that is truly scary. Maybe a bit of a tin hat, but I’m proudly wearing it.Sadly, the press has been incredibly complicit in the lies. They’ve looked the other way. Tonight was allegedly a shocker to them. Clearly, it shouldn’t have taken a Pulitzer worthy effort from a journalist to delve into poor Joe’s decline. The Dems and the press hid his condition from the American people. And that shouldn’t come as a surprise, as they buried the laptop story in the run up to the last election. They conjured up the Russian collusion and the dossier (and won Pulitzers in the process). They silenced dissent during the pandemic and its aftermath. They weaponized the IRS and DOJ. And they’ve done it all in the name of “saving democracy from Trump”. George Orwell, Richard Condon, or even Robert Klane couldn’t have dreamed up such wholesale deceptions, subterfuge, and real affronts to democracy. After all this, how could anyone trust the Democratic Party? Seriously? (And you can’t argue Trump, because he did cede power once already).
And from a humanity standpoint, shame on Jill. After the debate, she was pumping up the crowd at a post-debate celebration, while Joe was doddering around the stage. Disappointing. Really, really disappointing. Not sure which network covered that, as I was on a plane from Atlanta to SFO struggling to get the broadcast and was flipping between CNN and Fox. Regardless it was really sad to watch. As a medical professional, she has to know he’s not all there anymore, so her conduct is disgraceful. A family with no scruples clinging to power, apparently. And why would they, at this point. Oh yes, the money. . . .
After tonight, my fears for the country have increased significantly. It’s really scary, though Trump is way down the list on scary monsters in our closet. . . .

Great posts, all. 51 million people saw that fiasco, not including our enemies, who are likely to destabilize as much of the world as they can until the U.S. gets a real leader…which doesn’t look likely until 2028.
I’m in the 25% that runs screaming from both candidates. The Repubs are tied to Trump, and it’s because he now has a compelling lead. The most accurate pollster in 2020 (AtlasIntel) has Trump leading Biden by 5.2%.
As you pointed out, shame on both Lady MacBiden and Biden’s staff. But let me point out…the Dems are a party that hasn’t drifted left, so much as rushed pell-mell to the left pole. Biden was the only electable candidate in 2020…none of the Dems could have beaten Trump, certainly not Kamala Harris (btw, it’s interesting that two Repub congressmen are calling on the Dems to invoke the 25th amendment…I suspect they think that five months of President Harris and/or candidate Harris would be a godsend.
Biden was a moderate Democrat. The party itself has been taken over by the Far Left. None of the candidates poll well against Trump. In the absence of death or (actual) incapacity of the two major candidates, I see only two ways we get a decent president:
- Biden steps down, and the Dems get a moderate. A recent article identified Gov. Shapiro of PA. He ran like a moderate, but he’s governing like a Progressive.
- Trump gets a really solid, really strong VP and abandons the boring task of running the government to that VP.
One minor good result…NATO countries are getting their act together. We’ve proven that you can’t count on America, that we’re on a long, downward slide.
