Participant"In a pair of secret phone calls, Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, assured his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the PLA, that the U.S. would not strike, according to a new book by Bob Woodward & Robert Costa."https://t.co/JCFL5PDeTF pic.twitter.com/IheGZecFEb

Gen. Milley offered the Chinese advanced warning of any attack, apparently because he has Trump Derangement Syndrome.
This was too much, even for ALEXANDER VINDMAN.
If this is true GEN Milley must resign. He usurped civilian authority, broke Chain of Command, and violated the sacrosanct principle of civilian control over the military. It’s an extremely dangerous precedent. You can’t simply walk away from that. #dotherightthingintherightway https://t.co/izsMMCFPrz

LegendKeymasterA true American hero. He was clearly Preventing the nuclear Holocaust that Trump was set on creating. I mean, everybody knows Trump was a warmonger.
And it’s worth a chuckle that he had to call general li.

cardcrimsonParticipantHelp me with this. If Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian President was treasonous and worthy of impeachment, what the hell is this?
This is treason in spades (or is that politically incorrect?).
Top this with the fiasco in Afghanistan, and our enemies have to be laughing at who we have in charge of our military. Good bye South Pacific, Good bye North Atlantic.

LegendKeymasterNot sure what qualifies as treason these days, but it’s certainly conduct unbecoming if he was contacting foreign militaries with assurances outside the chain of command, I would think. I mean, play this down…If an admiral in the south china sea decided to call his counterpart and let them know that “there is no attack coming,” what could possibly be the motivation for it?
How is this different? I’m not outraged at all, but I’m genuinely curious what the utility is of Milley calling his PLA counterpart outside the chain of command?

I don’t think anyone is laughing at Milley. Our enemies may see him as I do. An unpredictable, possibly unhinged military leader working for a demented President. Not a good combination. I can’t imagine what the officer corps thinks of him especially in the case of Afghanistan.
If I were Biden, I’d be looking over my shoulder after what he did.

ParticipantWhat evidence did Milley uncover besides his suspicion about Trump? When Trump took out the Iranian terrorist he came up with 52 targets in case of retaliation then promptly forgot about it. And when KJU supposedly nuked Hawaii he was preoccupied with more important things. Golf.
My question about Trump from the start was and is does he have guile or is anything he says stream of consciousness???

rjnwmillParticipant“My question about Trump from the start was and is does he have guile or is anything he says stream of consciousness???”
Interesting question. I recall an informal press event. I don’t recall the subject. He fielded a lame question from a media member. He gave a smart ass answer and I started laughing. The people around him remained stone faced. Except Kushner who couldn’t suppress a smile.
The press and the stiffs took him literally and there was the usual offense in the media.
I don’t know if it is good or bad for a President to show subtle contempt. I like it myself. However I can imagine it makes it difficult for foreign friends and adversaries alike…as well as House Speakers and senior military leadership. But hey, if it bothers you, try a booster shot of Clorox.

ParticipantMy guess is he had no evidence for deciding to go all Alexander Haig, other than Gen. Milley has shown that he’s unusually susceptible to propaganda. He’s more interested in being Gen. George McClellan than he is in defending the Constitution or exhibiting military competence.
You’ve seen his Congressional testimony, especially when he interrupts questioning of Sec. Austin to affirmatively state that Bagram Airfield has no strategic value. He’s a guy who gets promoted because he’s good at self-promotion, and when he sensed the wind was blowing a certain way, he threw any principles out the window to save his own a–.

MickParticipantCurious to see how the lack of punishment of Gen. Milley affects the military forces of China, Russia and the United States. His offense was jaw-dropping. Why should there be any discipline in our military if the Chairman of the JCS can flaunt disregard for laws? Why should there be any restraint on the part of China and Russia, when we have such a sxxt show over here?

Gen. Milley can claim that he was just doing his job all he wants, but the fact of the matter is, he emboldened the Chinese. He’s even on another call telling the Chinese that, “Democracy is messy sometimes.” That’s true, but it’s also a signal of willingness to accommodate an enemy regime. He’s at best an idiot who doesn’t understand threats (or the Chinese, apparently), and at worst a compromised traitor who attempted to lead a de facto coup by asking for the loyalty of the military outside the civilian chain of command.
