ParticipantI suspect that is tantamount to targeting a foreign leader, and we don’t want to open up that can of worms in general–opens us and allies up to same behavior down the road.

ParticipantI am not particularly disturbed by the oil news in terms of impact the economy since energy and oil spending as % of GDP has dropped steadily over time. Yes, it is inflationary, but less leverage than in past decades. Also, higher pricing drives increased exploration and opens “marginal” production.
I definitely am disturbed by oil prices going up and benefitting certain authoritarian governments.

ParticipantMicro versus macro . . . from my perspective (my company and my industry) I am seeing job creation.
The spreads topic concerns me greatly. Irrational exuberance or just money seeking some investment vehicle? and does the answer to my question really matter in regards to possible significant downturn?

Participantmy counter-argument, based on economics, is that the reduction of existing workforce makes immigration necessary. I just want it well structured, with more economic benefit than burden on our governmental services.

ParticipantI am definitely interested on if anyone with expertise here can weigh in on if California population is truly shrinking or not given illegal immigration. When I change my lens to the long-term, it brings up interesting economic questions as birthrates in the US and Mexico are both declining . . . and I”ll assume same for central america (open to be corrected there). So at some point seems inevitable that things will turn to where population will truly shrink, and immigration pressures will subside.

ParticipantI think China will continue to aggressively look for unconventional ways to out-maneuver the US . . . and try to think about different dimensions. Stating the obvious, because of their economic heft they can do so more effectively than other states attempting same. We can’t prepare to fight the last war!
