LegendKeymasterOh, you care TC. All criticism of Trump starts with what he is supposedly thinking. 😎

LegendKeymasterI guess contriving the reason for an EO is not allowed. I guess judges get to decide what is contrived. I guess “rule of law” is a contrived reason? Haven’t read the decision. Low information commenter here.

LegendKeymasterIt will be a shame if the 2020s end up like the 1970s for cities. But, that’s where we are headed.
Of course that era did bring us Charles Bronson’s death wish series and Dirty Harry, so maybe you city dwellers can take one for the team and set the stage for more tough cop and vigilante films. Those were fun.

LegendKeymasterNo doubt. And, I’m one who suspects that Bolton isn’t one to sell out.
I’m also one who figures that Trump is probably crooked, and almost as crooked as his opponents and supporters in DC.

LegendKeymasterThere’s an easy answer for the book writers: Right now the market is likely a LOT hotter for a book about what’s wrong with Trump than it is for a book about what’s right.
That tends to be the answer to what gets put into books: What will sell.
I’ll just put it this way, if this was about Trump and Bolton’s book, you have to ask yourself if Bolton the hawk should ever be a left-wing darling? Of course not, but I’m betting they are buying his book. Wouldn’t surprise me if Trump is blowing it up to help.
The thing we really ought to ask is whether a civil servant ought to be able to make millions off a book deal after leaving government. Makes for some real ethical problems.

LegendKeymasterI have sipped the local hard liquor with a table full of Finns approximately 5 miles from the Russian border in a town called Imatra, and so I can tell you with certainty that Finland is not Russia but sure does drink like it is.
I have worked on nukes in the UK, and can state with certainty that there are in fact nukes there.
If North Dakota wasn’t part of Canada, would anyone really care?
Now, what’s the question again?

LegendKeymaster
Geesh. We are about to get censored again. I might as well post that Fire Island photo Portster gave me of his friend with Remotey on a leash on all fours. Cute pink leash with studs, however.
Nah, not censor-worthy.
Just don’t bring out the gimp.

LegendKeymasterI have a theory that technology has eliminated a broad swath of the population’s ability to read, reflect, and act deeply. There has always been the “controllable element” in the population, but it’s getting bigger and bigger. I think that’s a result of the rapid erosion of critical thinking skills.
I think we are heading into a new dark age driven by the loss of deep literacy (I posted on this a few days back).

LegendKeymaster
Quaker Oats pulls the name and the image of a black woman from it’s packaging. Are Uncle Ben and Mrs. Butterworth next?
Long time coming. The older ads with their stereotypes should have been hard to survive 40 years ago. Still, a lot of brand value just got jettisoned. Got to hand it to Quaker for making the move.
The real question is whether ANY black character of any kind is actually acceptable in advertising any more, or does it represent a minefield?
How long until we have cries about the exclusion of positive AA representations in branding?
by the way, the onion literally ran this on Friday.

LegendKeymasterDon’t count on the left going after their heroes. If the left didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any standards at all.

LegendKeymasterFBS: While the guy is well within his rights to conceal and carry to a gathering of antifa fools, the trainers I know would just say “don’t be stupid” when it comes to where you place yourself.
You also shouldn’t go pushing and grabbing people while carrying concealed (well, reality is you shouldn’t do it anyway but when carrying concealed there are people who will say you only did it BECAUSE you are armed). This guy showed really poor judgment and put himself in a terrible situation.
That said, I think he also showed real constraint in not pulling his gun after getting hit the first time. The second time, where he is basically tackled and hit with a skateboard, I have to say he was justified. The guy who tackled him and who he shot was not a guy he had previously been in conflict with (I think), making the whole “you provoked the fight, so you can’t finish it with deadly force” argument less strong.

LegendKeymaster
you left out the part about the guy being one of those “dress up like an army guy so my balls feel bigger” types. Otherwise, I can’t help you, sure seems like self-defense, but then I guess I have a problem with both sides of this equation…I am not an armed vigilante fan.
I don’t think so. He is wearing a blue t shirt and shorts. I actually just think he was at the protest to push people away from the statue (normally something the cops should already be regulating, but not in today’s lawlessness). He happens to have a concealed handgun but that’s not remarkable and it’s arguable it saved him from further injury.
He shows remarkable restraint as he walks away, and then the skateboard guy tackles him and hits him with the skateboard. He then pulls his concealed handgun and shoots.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out legally, but the blue t shirt guy clearly attempts to leave and is de escalating the situation with the mob attacks him. Taken in episodes, the situation sure looks like self defense. Taken as a whole, he might be charged with assault for his first or second altercation (a lady pushes him backward and he flings her down), making the claim of self defense minutes later after he tried to leave a bit shakier perhaps.
