ParticipantI remember people on the CEB talking about the brownshirts during Clinton and/or Obama’s presidency. I admit that at the time I didn’t even know what a brownshirt was.
Not all of it was on the CEB (just the brown shirt references). Offline I heard from other conservatives about Posse Comitatus fears, FEMA camps, and all that nonsense.
Yet, here we are some years later and of course it’s actually the Republicans that are implementing all this stuff — deporting people to foreign gulags with no due process, setting up ‘camps’ like Alligator Auschwitz (sorry — Alcatraz), and about to spend about $170 Billion on more prisons and detention centers, massively expanding the online surveillance state, sending in the military to blue states and cities (when there’s worse crime in many red states and cities), etc. I could go on.
Today his admin sent some brownshirts to intimate everyone at Governor Newsom’s press conference (picture below).

Isn’t this what the NRA, MAGA, and most conservatives feared all these years? You all have been railing against this crap forever. And now when it’s actually happening, the same people are cheering it on.

LegendKeymasterAntifa was not law enforcement.
what does the “E” in ICE stand for?
Brown shirts were not law enforcement.
NRA scaremongering about jack booted thugs confiscating arms from citizens has nothing to do with immigration enforcement against non citizen illegal aliens.

ParticipantWhat does the government sending thugs Newsom’s press conference have to do with enforcement?
Seriously, is there nothing you won’t defend?
Can you not simply admit this is insane authoritarianism instead of engaging in whataboutism and semantics about brownshirts?
There’s really no comparison between what the Trump administration is doing and Antifa. The administration is the federal government. It has the legal authority, the money, the military, the courts, and the police to enforce its will on the entire country.
Antifa is not even a formal organization. It’s a loose collection of activists. They can’t pass laws and can’t order the police or military to do anything. Whatever actions they take, whether it is showing up at rallies, shouting people down, or damaging property, are limited and don’t have the force of law behind them.
Authoritarian tactics from the top down, such as mass detention, politicized prosecutions, civil service purges, and surveillance, can strip away rights across the board. Antifa might break the law or intimidate individuals, but they do not control the justice system.

LegendKeymasterWhat happened w ice? I couldn’t get past the paywall. Literally cancelled my La times sub last month. It looked like they just showed up.
what do you have against law enforcement showing up where laws are likely being broken?
are there things I won’t defend? Yes. Open borders, sanctuary cities, abolishment of cash bond. Things like that.
do I think it’s heavy handed to have ICE show up at a rally visibly? Sure. Do I think it’s wrong? No.
what’s wrong is that people, maybe you, are triggered by men who are asked to bring law and order. They are more triggered by that than by public drug use and street culture intimidation.
that should be indefensible.
