Bad bridge collapse.  10 people injured, 4 in the hospital.  The governor turns it into a Democrats versus Republicans issue re: the infrastructure bill.

Then that narrative began to fall apart.  First there was this: a report from three years ago that the supports were rusting.

Then it came out that for all the money that went into the infrastructure bill, none of it was meant for maintenance on the bridge.

There was that trend last year that “____ is infrastructure.”  In Pittsburgh, at least one guy took issue with that, as demonstrated by the following Twitter thread.  As this Twitter account is overtly partisan, take it with a grain of salt, but the bottom line is, they’ve known about this problem since at least 2016, and all the money isn’t going to infrastructure.

This Governor is a sorry cunt. So typical of demtard politicians, quick to point at Republicans to distract from their incompetence

“I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I

Unfortunately I have a hard time seeing this sort of embarrassment as partisan. The parties both run governments that are failing in this category and have been for years.

The politicians just don’t garner a lot of votes for directing cash to rusted girders under bridges that still “work” when they can direct that cash to teachers or police unions. Sad fact.

The highway administration’s recently released 2020 report on bridge conditions shows California with 12,898 bridges in good condition, 11,329 in fair condition and 1,536 in poor condition. But we’re actually doing better than we did a few years ago:
