MickParticipantI don’t think this is the mike drop moment that the authors think it is. (a) if you’re here illegally, you’re a criminal. So I’m guessing it’s the high 90% range. (b) Three out of ten are criminals? Pretty unbelievable, a really extraordinarily high figure. Look up and down your street. There are thirty houses on my street. So…nine of them have criminals? I don’t think it’s that high. 5.1% of Americans have served time in jail (9% of men, 1% of women).

I agree with Mick that the stats aren’t a flex. For a person to have a criminal record, he has to be convicted. I have zero problem with detaining and deporting an illegal immigrant who consorts with known criminals…regardless of his own criminal record.
Put it this way, if I walk into a room that has 10 illegal immigrants in it actively, for instance, handling stolen merchandise, and 3 are hardened criminals with records, I’m fine w/ using ICE to deport the whole lot.
