If Kamala Harris is elected, she has promised to install a Republican in a Cabinet post.

My question to you is: which Republican and which Cabinet?

Here’s my answer. I think it’s Liz Cheney, and either Agriculture or Homeland Security. Here’s why:

Cheney has already come out in favor of KH, and she despises Trump and most Republicans. She won the 2020 House/Reps primary with 73% of the vote, but then she fought the Jan. 6 Insurrection, then lost the August 2022 Republican primary getting 28.9% of the vote. It was the second worst House incumbent defeat in the last 60 years. She has no political future in the Republican party, she might as well be a Democrat.

As for the specific Cabinet, there’s no way that Harris should allow a member of the opposing party to lead Defense, Sec of State, Veteran Affairs, Interior, Treasury, Health & Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Labor, Education, or Energy. All of them are too politically charged and they need to adhere to Democrat party principles. That leaves Agriculture, Transportation, and Homeland Security. Of the three, Agriculture makes the most sense. Lots of Republicans in Agriculture and the flyover states, and Liz Cheney is from Wyoming and Colorado.

I don’t think Harris will do that. I think KH will install Cheney in charge of Homeland Security. Here’s why it is an inspired choice: if KH put Liz Cheney in charge of Homeland Security, that tacitly admits that the Dems failed in their immigration mission, and that Harris, more specifically failed as the Border Czar. On the other hand, it would achieve two fundamental goals; first, it would eliminate immigration as an issue in the next election. Because either Liz would succeed — in which case it becomes Harris’ success — or it would fail and it would become a Republican failure with a Republican in charge. Second, they learn from their experience, adjust accordingly, and implement a path to citizenship for all illegals, thereby ensuring Democratic victories from now until the end of time.

Either way, it works for Kamala Harris in the next election. Yes, it’s a little bit cynical, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
