Trump’s tariffs are largely just a big grift. Other examples:

Apple. Tim Cook donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration and gave him a 24-karat gold gift before Apple won exemptions from tariffs on Chinese-made products. The gift was a gold-based commemorative disc celebrating Apple’s $100 billion U.S. investment pledge.

Swiss gold bar and Rolex clock. Swiss executives, including Rolex CEO gave Trump a personalized gold bar worth over $130,000 and a luxury Rolex desk clock. Days later, the administration cut tariffs on Swiss imports from 39% to 15%. The gold bar was engraved “45” and “47” for his two terms, and both gifts ended up on his Oval Office desk. An unnamed administration official told Axios, “It was tough to beat Apple, but the Swiss did it.” (they’re not even pretending anymore.)

Nvidia. Jensen Huang paid $1 million for a seat at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago table before the administration dropped rules barring Nvidia’s advanced chip sales to China.

Meanwhile Trump is about $3 or $4 BILLION dollars richer since taking office.
When you understand "the deep state" simply refers to the rule of law, it makes much more sense.
