Interesting take on the DNC and its welcoming of Kamala Harris and her fellow Californians. All, that is, except for Governor Newsom:
Column: The Harris-Newsom competition is over and it’s clear who won. The governor doesn’t seem happy
Couple of intriguing points:
- The DNC wanted Newsom to kick off the Monday sessions…in other words, they wanted to relegate him to the Opening of Dead Night.
- They also eliminated the toxic Adam Schiff. Smart move.
- The article points up Newsom’s sarcastic “30-minute primary” remark, followed by “that’s what I’ve been told to say.”

My take?
- Newsom feels he’s an extremely accomplished mayor and governor who ably led a difficult city and a difficult state and made some groundbreaking strides in both.
- He feels KH was an able district attorney, a good fundraiser, not great as California’s AG, and an overly leftist Senator.
- He think she’s a terrible leader, that her skills are best 1:1, and deep down, he think she’s a DEI hire, which, technically, she was. Biden said “black woman for VP” so Biden leapfrogged Tulsi and others and reached down to pluck #16-ranked Kamala Harris in a move that likely astounded Newsom.
- He thought “VP, but…who cares? I’ll win the primary. I ran SF, I ran CA, no one can match my record, and I’m Progressive.” But there was no primary. Biden anointed Harris, eliminating any other Democrat from consideration.
- Newsom, deep down, is as stunned as any capable caucasian male who lost out to a less-capable non-caucasian male.
Get used to it, buddy. It’s the world you and your peers built. DEI trumps competence.
